Looking for where to go paragliding in PACA? The region has many flying sites, from the Mediterranean to the Southern Alps. Ours are in the Alpes-Maritimes: Gréolières, our main site, and Gourdon, above the Gorges du Loup.

That is where almost all our flights take place, all year round except from January to mid-February. People come from Nice and Cannes, but also from the Var, Marseille or the Verdon: a tandem flight takes 1 h 30 at most on site, so the round trip fits in a day.

Ailéments is a paragliding school founded in 2013. Our instructors are state-qualified, with more than 20 years of experience.

Takeoffs

Where do we fly in PACA?

Two sites, chosen the day before according to the weather: you receive the meeting point and the time by text message.

Main site · 1,800 m

Gréolières

On the ridges of the Cheiron, three take-offs at 1,100, 1,500 and 1,800 m, up to 1,000 m of height difference, and the landing in the Loup valley, at the foot of the school. Full details on the paragliding Gréolières page.

Meet at the landing field, at the school, then a 4×4 ride up to take-off, about 20 min.

Hilltop village · 1,100 m

Gourdon

Take-off from L'Embarnier, above the village, facing the Gorges du Loup and the sea. It is our second site, used when the weather does not allow flying at Gréolières. See paragliding at Gourdon.

Meet directly at take-off.

More rarely, in winter, we also fly above the sea, with paragliding at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. For courses, we also use the Col de Bleyne and Kennedy.

What about the other sites in the region? We only describe here the ones where we fly. To discover the others, see our guide to the best paragliding sites in France.

The site

Why come from all over the region to Gréolières?

Our passengers from the Var and Marseille drive two hours, sometimes more, to fly with us. Pierrot, instructor and founder of the school, explains why: "we have an unbeatable view of the Mercantour and the French Riviera, and our Cheiron mountain rises to 1,800 m, which makes it a wild spot with quality flights". To get an idea, just read our reviews.

  • The Mediterranean and the French Riviera, to the south
  • The peaks of the Mercantour, to the north
  • The ridges of the Cheiron, still wild
  • The Gorges du Loup and the hilltop villages of the hinterland

The site is also reliable. Facing due south, it benefits from the Loup valley breeze and the first thermals early in the morning; in a light northerly wind over the ridges, you fly sheltered. With its three take-offs, we count more than 250 flyable days a year and flights adapted to everyone, from the gentle child flight to the prestige flight that goes further and longer.

Learning to fly: our courses at Gréolières

Our courses take place at Gréolières, from mid-February to June and from September to December, from age 14. Our students come from all over France, and often from Marseille, Aix, Avignon or Toulon. Programme, prices and next dates are on the page of our paragliding school in PACA.

Already a pilot?

The training slope at Gréolières is open to all pilots for ground handling, leaving room for those coming in to land. To get up to take-off, sign up the day before for the Gréolières shuttle. If you have done a Beginner course and flown within the year, the à la carte pilot day (€180) is presented with our paragliding courses.

What about canyoning?

It takes place in the Gorges du Loup, from 1 April to 31 October, and can be combined with a flight on the same day. All our descents are on the canyoning 06 page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about paragliding in PACA

Sites, prices, journeys, season, age, weather.

Where can you go paragliding in PACA?

With Ailéments, at Gréolières, our main site on the Cheiron mountain, and at Gourdon, in the Alpes-Maritimes. Gréolières is 35 min from Grasse, 50 min from Nice and Cannes, 2 h from Toulon and 2 h 40 from Marseille. For the other sites in the region, see our guide to paragliding spots in France.

How much does a tandem paragliding flight cost in PACA?

With us: Child flight €100 (ages 5-6), Ascending flight €140 (from age 7, 20 to 30 min), Prestige flight €250 (from age 12, video included), Teaching flight €250 and the paragliding and canyoning combo at €190 per person. Equipment, instructor and insurance included; all our prices are on the prices page.

Can you paraglide anywhere?

No: you take off from a site suited to free flight and you respect the airspace. In a tandem, the instructor chooses the site according to the day's weather: with us, Gréolières or Gourdon. For the rules, see paragliding regulations.

Which site should you choose for the view?

We are not objective: for us, it is Gréolières, for its view of the Mediterranean and the Mercantour, and for the Cheiron, a mountain that has stayed wild. Our passengers talk about it in their reviews.

From Marseille or Toulon, can you do the round trip in a day?

Yes. Allow 2 h 40 from Marseille and 2 h from Toulon, then 1 h 30 at most on site for a child flight or an ascending flight, about 1 h 45 for the prestige flight.

Can you fly all year round?

We fly all year round except from January to mid-February: more than 250 flyable days a year. For the cold season, see paragliding in winter.

From what age and up to what weight?

From age 5 for the Child flight, 7 for the Ascending flight, 12 for the Prestige and Teaching flights, and 90 kg at most. Over 60, we talk it through together by phone before you book.

What happens if the weather does not allow flying?

The slot is confirmed the day before by text message. If the weather does not allow flying, we offer you another date, free of charge, and you only pay after the flight. Cancellations on your initiative follow our terms of sale, article 10.
