Paragliding shuttle at Gréolières: prices, access and how it works

Are you an independent pilot planning to fly to Gréolières without a rotation vehicle? A paragliding shuttle is available all year round (except January) to show you from landing to take-offs on the site. Prices between £5 and £12 per trip Depending on the chosen take-off, clear conditions, simple operation. Here's everything you need to know before coming to fly in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Why a shuttle at Gréolières?

Gréolières is one of the leading websites in the paragliding on the French Riviera, but which has a particularity: a gradient of nearly 1,000 metres between the highest take-off point (1,800 m, on the ridges of Cheiron) and the landing site located below the village. Without a rotation vehicle, it's impossible to do several flights in a day – you fly back down, and then you have to go back up again.

A personal car is sufficient if you're coming with several people and leave a vehicle at the bottom. However, when you arrive alone, carpooling, or by train via Nice, the shuttle becomes the only realistic solution to make the most of the day. This is exactly the need that the service in place on the site addresses.

The service is provided by Moniteur Ailéments Union, which guarantees a declared framework, insurance, public rates, and an official schedule. You know who you are paying, what you are paying for, and under what conditions you are being transported.

💡How is takeoff chosen? Every evening, we analyse the predicted flight conditions for the next day (wind, thermals, cloud base) and communicate the timings and likely take-off location on the WhatsApp group. The definitive choice (Crêtes, 300, 700, or Jerusalem) is made on the morning itself, depending on the reality on the ground.

THE TAKEOFFS

Shuttle departures served

Gréolières has several launch sites that can be used depending on wind direction and weather conditions. The paragliding shuttle serves three official take-offs The 300, the 700 and Jerusalem. The 600 can also be served occasionally depending on the schedule. The fare system distinguishes two categories: the 300 on one side, the Crêtes on the other.

The 300

Low take-off, the quickest access from landing. Ideal for short flights, first flights of the day, or when conditions don't yet allow for climbing higher. Shortest route of the rotation, reduced rate accordingly.

The Ridges: Jerusalem, the 700 and the 600

The appellation «Ridges» Group the three altitude take-offs from the site: Jerusalem (1,000 m), 700 and the 600. The choice between the three is made according to the direction of the wind on the day and the pilot's profile. The shuttle goes up there by around 25 minutes since landing, via a dedicated runway which passes by the station of Gréolières 1400.

A single price covers all three take-offs, offering a great flight, a panoramic view of the Mercantour and the Mediterranean, and maximum altitude gain for pilots looking to complete multiple circuits.

The choice of takeoff is made that very morning, depending on the weather, wind, and your level. You don’t have to decide this in advance: we’ll adapt together when you get picked up.

⚠️ Important point : the routes taken by the shuttle are Restricted Access. All travel in 4x4s or personal vehicles on these tracks is prohibited. The shuttle bus is the only permitted solution to reach the take-off points via these routes.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Who is this shuttle really for?

The Gréolières paragliding shuttle is a service For experienced pilots only who fly solo with their own equipment. It is not intended for tandem discovery passengers or trainees.

Autonomous drivers only

To use the shuttle, you must be autonomous on take-off and landing, and capable of taking off in various conditions. Specifically: you manage your inflation alone, your flight decisions, your choice of trajectory, and your landing.

⚠️ The union declines all responsibility for take-off and landing. This is a Shuttle service, not guided by an instructor. If you're looking for a pedagogical framework with support, this isn't the service for you — you should look towards an internship at a school.

For christenings: everything is included

If you book a first paragliding experience, you have no shuttle to manage. Transport to take-off is fully covered by the instructor as part of the service. You arrive, we take care of everything.

For interns: transport included in the internship

For those learning to fly, transport is also included in all paragliding courses Ailéments. You don’t have to organise the shuttle service separately: it’s included in the training package.

Typical user profiles

The shuttle concerns precisely three pilot profiles:

  • The local drivers from the Alpes-Maritimes who do not have a rotation vehicle
  • The travelling drivers who discover the Gréolières site over a few days
  • The Road trip drivers on the Côte d’Azur who want to fly multiple times without logistical constraints

Prices

How much does the paragliding shuttle cost from Ailéments to Gréolières?

The prices are understood per driver and per trip, from landing to the take-off site. Two levels depending on your status: union member or visitor.

Destination    Member priceVisitor tariff
Crests (Jerusalem, 700, 600)                  10 €12 €
The 300           5 €6 €

The price «Ridges» covers all altitude take-offs — Jerusalem, 700 and 600 — regardless of which one the supervising instructor chooses depending on the day's conditions. The fee «300» applies only to low takeoff, quicker to access.

Member rate or visitor rate?

Membership as a Trade union user guide costs 10 € per calendar year. It gives you access to a reduced rate on all your journeys throughout the year. If you plan more than 3 or 4 journeys in a season, the membership pays for itself immediately. If you're only coming for one day, the visitor rate remains reasonable.

CONDITIONS & PROCEDURE

How it works on site: booking, conditions and procedure

The paragliding shuttle service operates on a simple but precise framework. Please read this section carefully before you come: no pre-booking, no ride.

Registration required the day before on WhatsApp

You must absolutely sign up the day before on the group WhatsApp Shuttle Ailéments. The flight times are determined every evening, depending on the predicted flight conditions for the next day. Without registering the evening before, you will not be accommodated – this is what allows the whole team to schedule rotations, the driver's schedule, and consistency with the aerological conditions.

To join the group, please contact the Ailéments team via the Contact page.

Meeting point: Ailéments school, car park by the clubhouse

The appointment is at Ailéments paragliding school, more precisely on the Parking near the Au Gré de l’Air club's little hut, on the landing strip. This is where the shuttle loads pilots to depart for take-offs.

Once there, the procedure is straightforward:

  1. You are heading to the shuttle
  2. You are getting closer to the driver to confirm your presence
  3. You are loading your sail onto the roof of the vehicle
  4. You pay for your journey (cash or instant transfer)
  5. You're boarding and the shuttle is leaving for the day's takeoff.

Visit 15 to 25 minute drive depending on the destination.

FFVL licence or equivalent insurance required

All passengers on board must present a Valid French Federation of Free Flight licence (with aerial RC included), or alternatively equivalent free flight insurance. This is a legal and operational requirement: no pilot will be transported without this cover.

Atmosphere and rules of living on the shuttle

The atmosphere on the shuttle is friendly, cordial and always respectful. It is a simple but firm rule: the service runs thanks to the collective spirit of the drivers who share it. Respect for the driver, for other drivers, and for the equipment is a non-negotiable condition of the service.
