Formerly known as Gréolières-les-Neiges, the resort was renamed Gréolières 1400 in 2024. The ski area, ski lifts and all the infrastructure remain identical. Only the name has changed to better reflect the identity of the site.
The ski area covers 30 kilometres of runs at altitudes of between 1,400 and 1,800 metres. With 26 runs - 4 green, 10 blue, 8 red and 4 black - it is just as suitable for beginner families as it is for experienced skiers. Nine ski lifts serve the area. The 76 snow cannons secure around 4 kilometres of runs, an invaluable addition at the start and end of the season.
Gréolières 1400 is all about proximity to the Côte d'Azur. Just 21 kilometres as the crow flies from the sea, it's the southernmost ski resort in the French Alps. Gréolières 1400 is located in the hinterland of Grasse, in the commune of Gréolières, part of the Sophia-Antipolis conurbation. Despite its mountain setting, it remains remarkably close to the coast.
From Nice (about 1 hour) : Take the A8 motorway towards Cannes, then exit at junction 48. Take the RD436 towards La Colle-sur-Loup, then follow the RD6 and RD3 towards Gréolières village. Once in the village, the RD2 and then the RD802 lead directly to the resort.
From Cannes or Grasse (about 45 min) : direction Grasse, then follow the signs for Gréolières par le Pays de Grasse. The route takes you through magnificent landscapes in the Préalpes d'Azur.
From Toulon or the Var (about 2 hours): Take the A8 towards Nice, then exit at junction 48 and follow the same route.
The road is tarmac and well maintained, even in winter. In periods of snow, special equipment (chains or snow tyres) may be required for the last few kilometres. There is a large free car park at the foot of the slopes. In high season and on sunny weekends, it can fill up quickly, so make sure you arrive early.
Two options are available in winter. ZOU! 652 runs from Grasse SNCF to Gréolières 1400. The Navette des Neiges serves the resort from Antibes. These services only operate during the ski season. Outside this period, the car is essential.
The answer depends on what you're looking for. Gréolières 1400 is not just a winter destination. The Cheiron massif lends itself to outdoor activities almost all year round.
This is the resort's peak season. Natural snow cover varies from year to year, which is typical of a Southern Alps resort at this altitude. Snow cannons compensate for shortfalls at the start and end of the season. The Gréo'Luge operates independently of the snow.
The conditions for paragliding become excellent from spring onwards. The thermals develop and the days get longer. It's also the ideal time of year for hiking: nature is back in full colour, the trails are passable and the temperatures pleasant without being stifling.
High season for outdoor activities. Canyoning is in full swing in the Gorges du Loup. Paragliding is practised daily. Temperatures remain cooler at altitude than on the coast: Gréolières is a welcome refuge when the Côte d'Azur is sweltering in the heat.
The number of visitors is dropping and the autumn colours are taking over the massif. Paragliding is still possible, and hiking offers spectacular panoramas in the low-angled light. It's the locals' favourite time of year.
