What is an ascending paraglider flight?
An ascending flight (also known as a thermal flight) is a paragliding flight A two-seater where the pilot uses the warm air currents rising from the ground to gain altitude and extend the duration of the flight.
How does it work?
The sun heats the ground unevenly. Dark areas (rocks, forests) heat up faster and create columns of hot air that rise: these are the thermals. Your pilot spots them and uses them to make you «spiral» upwards.
The difference with prestige flight :
- Ascending flight: 20-30 min, gentle acrobatics on request, perfect balance between sensation and price
- Prestige flight: 45 min to 1 hour, we explore the mountain further, video included
Ascending flight already offers all the sensations of active free flight: climbs, spirals, the possibility of exceeding take-off altitude.
It's this immersive dimension that makes it so addictive!

Who can make an ascent flight?
Ascending is accessible to almost everyone!
Age
- From age 7 (4-6 year olds are directed towards the child flight)
- There's no age limit: we've flown with passengers aged 80 and over!
Weight
- Maximum weight: 90 kg
- Below, no restrictions
Contraindications
- Serious heart problems
- Pregnancy
Physical condition
- Normal required (no need to be sporty)
- Able to run a few metres on take-off
- Good joints (knees, ankles)
- Regular exercise
But that doesn't mean you can't fly
- Have vertigo (you can't feel the void when paragliding!)
- Not being sporty
- Be over 60, 70 or even 80 years old

How does an ascending flight work?
The day before :
- We analyse the weather conditions at our various sites
- You will receive a Confirmation SMS with the GPS location of the meeting point and the timetable
- The location may vary depending on the conditions: Gréolières, Gourdon or Roquebrune-Cap-Martin
D-Day:
- Appointments at the indicated point (school car park in Gréolières Village, the GPS point will be indicated by SMS the day before departure)
- Ascent by 4×4 to the take-off site (between 5 and 20 minutes depending on conditions)
- Safety briefing Your instructor explains the take-off and landing instructions.
- Equipment harness, helmet and harness for tandem gliders
- Take-off a few steps into the wind and you're in the air
- Flight ascendant Contemplation, sensations or acrobatics of your choice
- Acrobatics (if you wish): tight bends, acceleration...
- Landing in the Grand-Pré at Gréolières Village
- Debriefing Video recovery if you choose this option - smiles guaranteed!

How does it feel to be in the air?
Climbing offers a unique range of sensations:
On take-off : The adrenalin is pumping, you take a few running steps, and suddenly... you're off the ground. The earth recedes and silence settles in.
Thermal flight : When you enter a thermal, you feel the sail «catching» the warm air. You climb, sometimes rapidly, while gently spiralling.

At the controls: If you wish, your pilot will let you take control. You can feel the glider reacting to your movements and intuitively understand how it is flown.

Frequently asked questions about paragliding
1. What's the difference between ascending flight and classic baptism?
Ascending flight uses thermal currents to extend your flight and gain altitude.
Unlike a simple «discovery» baptism, where you descend gradually, here you go up, down and back up again...
It's a dynamic, interactive flight lasting 20-30 minutes, compared with 10-15 minutes for a basic first flight.
2. Can I really fly during the flight?
Yes !
Your instructor will suggest that you take control of the brakes during the flight.
You'll feel the sail react to your movements and intuitively understand the basics of piloting.
It's a real introduction to free flight, in complete safety as the instructor remains in control at all times.
3. Are acrobatics compulsory?
Absolutely not!
Before the flight, your instructor will ask you what you prefer: contemplative flying (gentle, scenic, silent) or thrills (tight turns, acceleration, small tricks). You choose, and we adapt. You can even change your mind during the flight!
4. Why does the flight last 20-30 minutes and not exactly 25?
The duration depends on the day's weather conditions.
On a hot day, you can easily exceed 30 minutes.
If the thermals are less active, the flight will be shorter but just as enjoyable. We never cheat: we always give you the maximum that the conditions allow.
5. Is the video option worth it?
We highly recommend it!
At €30, it's an unforgettable souvenir.
Your instructor films with an onboard camera: take-off, flight, your reactions, the landscape, the landing.
You'll leave with an SD card containing HD images to share with friends and family.
6. What if I get scared at the last minute?
It's normal to be a little apprehensive! Our instructors are used to it and will put you at ease.
In 99% of cases, the fear disappears within the first few seconds of flight.
And if you really don't feel like it when you take off, we never force you: we'll postpone for free.
