An unusual combination of hiking and tandem paragliding. Beautiful landscapes and a feeling of escape.
The Cheiron mountain, with its north-south facing slopes, is located in the Préalpes d'Azur Regional Nature Park and rises to an altitude of 1770m, making it a remarkable vantage point from which to admire the Mercantour massif and the Côte d'Azur. Walking and flying is a discipline well known to paragliding enthusiasts. To help you discover this facet of free flight, Ailéments is taking you to take off from the crests of the Cheiron. We'll take the GR4 north face from the resort of Gréolières des Neiges for 45 minutes to gradually reach the take-off point for the 700 south face. It's a moment of contemplation and intimate sharing between you and nature, a unique experience that will make you a privileged participant in this wonderful adventure. After taking off from the beautiful ochre cliffs overlooking Gréolières, we'll walk along the walls and ridges of the Cheiron to finally fly over the village. Depending on the weather conditions and your wishes, we'll be able to take advantage of the lift or simply let ourselves glide along for a long, contemplative flight before landing. Of course, you'll need to be physically fit for both the hike and the take-off and landing phases. This is a very accessible option, with no technical requirements, but it does require regular practice of the mountain hiking.

Exceptional!!!

Incredible experience.
You can't go wrong with the Ailéments / Gréolières combo.
Pierre Yves is passionate and professional.
I recommend to 100%. ✅
For the walking part, it's important to have a minimum level of training and to walk regularly in the mountains. It requires a bit of stamina, but it's very accessible, and for the flying, anyone can fly from the age of 16 and weighing less than 90 kilos. It's a very complementary mix, much appreciated by nature lovers.
You'll need a good pair of lace-up shoes, a fairly compact folding pole, a small bottle of water for the ascent and a jacket for the paragliding part. The idea is to climb as light as possible, so take the bare minimum with you.
Le paragliding like all other activities This science is not exact, in fact it is possible to predict with more or less accuracy the conditions that we will have the next day. That's why it's possible, even if it's quite rare, to descend on foot because the conditions at take-off are not good. The important thing is safety.
How can I describe the feeling of freedom you get when you get ready in the morning to take off from the crests of the Cheiron and admire the sunrise? It starts with preparing your bag and analysing the weather conditions for the next morning. The equipment is light, efficient and well adjusted to optimise weight, because every gram counts! Then comes the morning, a quick look out the window to see the stars, ok the sky is clear! I then check the beacons to find out which direction I'm going. wind We reached the summit of the Cheiron and confirmed the previous day's analysis. All the lights are green, so here we go, a small personal detail I'm of course fasting to have maximum energy and greater ease of concentration! If that intrigues you, then I'll let you find out more about the intermittent young dry ... There are two ways to climb: from the south in two hours or from the north in one hour. Gréoliere village on foot from the south. A headlamp was needed for the start of the walk, the stars were magnificent and it was cool, but that didn't spoil the feeling of privilege of living in such a beautiful region. After an hour and a half's walk, I reach the ridges that I'll have to walk along until I take off from Jerusalem. The first light is beginning to break through, the first reliefs are taking shape and the sky is taking on a filter of orange. I'm thinking, this is so cool! There's no wind on the ridges, or even a light southerly breeze, so it's perfect. the view !
Then it's time for take-off, but here pictures are worth more than long speeches.
And yes, in Gréolieres we have the particularity of having different paragliding take-off points that are only accessible on foot. book a paragliding flight with our team, we're going up in our superb shuttle unless it's the 'Walk and Fly'. There are several advantages to walking to take-off. Firstly, it wakes you up, both motorically and psychologically. It wakes up your reflexes, senses and analysis so that you can make the right choice for take-off and landing. Take-offs are not always official, and we sometimes like to take off from small platforms surrounded by various obstacles, so you need to be wide awake! There's also the not inconsiderable advantage of being able to admire a magnificent landscape all the way up, in a mineral environment where we can contemplate the magnificent colours of the sky and the gradual awakening of nature with its surprising wildlife. The take-offs are not always official, and we sometimes like to take off from small platforms surrounded by various obstacles - you need to be wide awake! Another advantage, and not the least, is that it doesn't pollute, as many pilots use their cars to take off. climbing on paraglider launch sitesBut fortunately a lot of people are carpooling.
When I was passing through Gréolieres, I contacted Pierrot to find a time when I could accompany him to the Crêtes du Cheiron and take off with him for a little stroll in the high country sky. My first paragliding flight I was a bit apprehensive, but Pierrot reassured me as we walked to take-off. The view was magnificent, with the Mercantour mountains in the distance and the Mediterranean Sea reflecting its light. For me, it was a great experienceIt was a smooth take-off and once in the air, as Pierrot says, it was steaming! We found some good lift and went for a walk to the village of Coursegoules before coming back to land at the village of Gréolieres. Thanks Pierrot for a great time, I'll be back very soon.
