At the top of the village stands the Château de Gourdon, a former stronghold dating back to the 12th century. Arrive early to enjoy the village before it gets too busy. Start by climbing up to the castle and its gardens, then walk down the medieval streets to Place Victoria. Take time to admire the views over the Loup valley and the Mediterranean. Allow 1h30 to 2h for this first part.
A number of restaurants in the village offer lunch with a view. For more choice, head down to Pont du Loup, a 10-minute drive away, where several restaurants offer local cuisine in a natural setting.
This is where the day takes on a whole new dimension. There are three options to suit you:

Gourdon is located in the hinterland of Grasse, in the Alpes-Maritimes department. The village can only be reached by road, via a winding climb that is already part of the experience.
From Nice, allow around 45 minutes on the Route du Loup. From Grasse, access is quicker: around 20 minutes. From Cannes, allow 40 minutes via Grasse. The itinerary is well signposted, and the road offers fine views over the valley.
Parking is a particular problem in Gourdon. The car park below the village has limited spaces, and in high season (July-August), it can be full by late morning. Our advice: arrive before 10am or visit during the low season and at weekends.

From March to May and September to November, temperatures are mild, crowds are moderate and conditions are ideal for outdoor activities. This is the period we recommend if you want to combine a visit to the village with outdoor activities such as paragliding or canyoning.
In July and August, the views are magnificent and the long days make it possible to combine everything. On the other hand, the village is very busy and parking becomes a challenge. It's best to visit in the mornings and book your outdoor activity in advance.
From November to March, Gourdon is at peace. The village is open and the winter panoramas have a special charm. Paragliding is still possible, depending on the weather, but canyoning is closed in winter. A 30-minute drive away, the Gréolières 1400 allows you to combine skiing and hang-gliding on the same day.
