Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, between Monaco and Menton, has its own paragliding take-off: Mont Gros, about 700 m above the sea. We fly there in winter, from December to early March, when the Golfe Bleu beach, where we land, is free of swimmers; the school is closed from January to mid-February.

At Mont Gros, the flights are the same as in the mountains: same options, same flight times, same prices, from the Child flight to the Prestige flight. What changes is the setting: a take-off facing the Mediterranean, Monaco beneath the wing, then a landing on the sand.

The rest of the year, and for most of our flights, we take off from Gréolières and Gourdon, in the Loup valley, about 1 hr 15 from the coast: up to 1,000 m of height difference, the Mediterranean on one side and the Mercantour on the other.

This guide: when to fly at Mont Gros, how you get up there, what changes between the sea and the mountains, the options and the FAQ.

Takeoffs

Where to fly from Roquebrune Cap Martin?

In winter, the sea at Mont Gros; the rest of the year, the mountains at Gréolières and Gourdon. Our other take-offs are listed in our flying sites on the French Riviera.

Main site · about 1 hr 15

Gréolières and Gourdon

Our everyday sites: at Gréolières, three take-offs up to 1,800 m and up to 1,000 m of height difference; at Gourdon, the L'Embarnier take-off, at around 1,100 m, above the Gorges du Loup.

The same flights as at Gréolières, of the same length; only the season is short.

On all three sites, the flights, prices and lengths are the same. The next day's site is chosen the day before, depending on the weather and the season, and confirmed to you by text message.

The area makes for a great day out: the Le Corbusier walk on Cap-Martin, the medieval village of Roquebrune and its castle, the nearby Italian border, or a canyon descent in the hinterland.

At Gréolières, the setting changes everything: beneath the wing, the Gorges du Loup, the Cheiron plateaus, the coast in the distance and the first peaks of the Mercantour. The flights and prices are detailed on the tandem paragliding flight page.

On the day

How does a paragliding flight work?

A simple day, supervised from start to finish by your state-qualified instructor. The day before, we confirm the chosen site by text message, depending on the weather and the season.

A text message the day before

The chosen site, the GPS location and the meeting time, depending on the forecast.

Meeting point and shuttle

At Mont Gros, we meet near Roquebrune station: our shuttle takes you up to the take-off.

Briefing and equipment

Safety instructions, harness and helmet. A few running steps facing the sea and you are flying.

Flight and beach landing

Monaco in the background, then the landing on the Golfe Bleu beach.

The flight follows how you feel: taking the controls, accepting the aerobatics your instructor offers or simply enjoying the ride, you decide with your instructor, if conditions allow. The instructor ends with a debrief and hands over the video if you chose it. No experience is needed: a few running steps are enough for the take-off.

Outside the Mont Gros season, there is almost always a flying window at Gréolières or Gourdon, except from January to mid-February, when the school is closed: regular thermals in spring and autumn, morning slots in summer. The site is confirmed the day before by text message to avoid a wasted trip, and postponement is free if the weather does not cooperate.

No need to be sporty: the instructor handles the flight, and offers you the controls if you wish. Children from age 5, the cautious and thrill-seekers alike all find what they are looking for; birthdays, hen and stag parties and groups are welcome, and our courses then lead all the way to the pilot certificate.

Best day out, we did paragliding and then the canyoning. Great value for money and our instruction was excellent we always felt very safe. I have done canyoning in a few countries and this was the best I have done by far. It was a beautiful gorge and had the clearest water. We would book again if we ever came back to the area for sure!
