The canyons

Where can you go canyoning from Cannes?

Three levels of backcountry routes, from family sledding to a grand sporting descent – all within an hour of Cannes.

Initiation · from 8 years

Gour du Ray

Our signature canyon, perfect for a First family experience. Natural water slides, optional little jumps and swimming in crystal-clear pools.

All levels, from 8 years old. The most spectacular setting in the region for beginners.

Discovery · Sensations

Gorges du Loup

The classic route in the Alpes-Maritimes, near Gourdon. Cascades, Recalls up to 15m and optional jumps in unspoilt surroundings.

A complete outing to experience all the sensations of canyoning, with no technical prerequisites.

Sporty · day

The deep canyons

To go further: the Courmes waterfalls and their 65-metre rappel, the Riolan and its two amphitheatres, or the Clue d'Aiglun.

Linked rappels, technical passages and awe-inspiring scenery for thrill-seekers.

  • Natural slides and optional jumps (from 2 to 10m) into turquoise pools
  • Framed recollections along the waterfalls, up to 15m on the discovery trail
  • Swim in crystal-clear waters between the limestone cliffs of the Pré-Alps of the Azure
  • The wild setting of Gorges du Loup, at the foot of the perched village of Gourdon
  • A Approach march 10 to 30 minutes through the Mediterranean forest

From Cannes, allow approximately 40 minutes via the Gorges du Loup to reach the Gour du Ray or the Loup canyon. The day before, your guide analyses the flow rate and the weather, then confirms the meeting point by text message – ensuring a descent in the best conditions.

Cannes shares this playground with its neighbours: one also comes down from Antibes and Nice, less than an hour away. This trip can be perfectly combined with a visit to the hilltop villages of Gourdon and Tourrettes-sur-Loup, or a day out on the Lérins Islands.

Season-wise, we practice May to September, with the water being warmest in July-August (15-18 °C). Fancy combining experiences? The paragliding + canyoning combo Fly over the gorges in the morning before descending them in the afternoon.

It’s the water that makes all the difference: turquoise, crystal-clear and sometimes cool, it transforms every pool into a natural swimming pool and every slide into a life-size water slide. Between tackling the technical sections, you can take the time to swim, admire the rock sculpted by the floods and enjoy the silence that only the gorges can offer. A timeless escape, just a few kilometres from the hustle and bustle of the coast.

A question often arises.

In the canyon

Canyoning in the Gorges du Loup, pictured

Toboggans, plunges into pools and abseils under waterfalls: a preview of what awaits you, guided by a state-certified instructor. Optional photo and video souvenirs available.

From the very first pool, it's a total immersion: the turquoise water, the coolness of the neoprene, the echo of the limestone walls. Your guide goes first over each obstacle to show you the technique, then accompanies you step-by-step — jumps always remain optional, the pace adapts to the group. The photos taken during the descent are the best way to relive the adventure and share it with your loved ones.

D-Day

How does a canyoning trip work?

A simple and reassuring route, supervised from A to Z by your state-certified guide. The canyon is confirmed by SMS the day before, depending on the weather and water flow.

Appointment & equipment

Check-in at the car park confirmed by SMS, then donning the 5mm wetsuit, helmet, and harness – everything is provided.

Safety briefing

Jumping position, using the descender, communication signals. No jargon, just practical advice.

Approach walk

10 to 30 minutes depending on the canyon to reach the start, time to warm up and admire the Pre-Alps.

Descent and return

Toboggans, optional jumps and abseils to the rhythm of the band, then back to the car park and debriefing.

First slide, first thrills: your guide goes first to show you the technique, then accompanies you through each obstacle. Jumps are always optional — you can bypass if you prefer — and the pace adapts to the group. No experience is necessary: you just need to be able to swim 25 metres and be comfortable in the water. Afterwards, you get changed, share your impressions, and collect your photos if you chose that option.

As for what to bring, it’s nothing complicated: just make sure you have a swimsuit to wear under your wetsuit, an old pair of closed-toe trainers that won’t mind getting soaked, a towel, and some dry clothes for the journey home. There’s no need to bring any specialist kit – we provide everything. Just remember to let the guide know about any specific concerns (fear of water, health issues): the trip is always tailored to the group, never the other way round.
