Cannes, a city of glamour and festivals, offers exclusive access to the most beautiful sites in paragliding in the Alpes-Maritimes. Less than an hour’s drive away, Gréolières’s main site awaits you for a unique and exhilarating flying experience.

With Ailéments, school certified by the FFVL Since 2013, you’ve been flying under the supervision of state-qualified instructors. On the agenda: the Mediterranean and the Croisette glistening in the distance, the Lérins Islands on a clear day, and the peaks of Mercantour on the mountain side.

And between flights, why not take the opportunity to explore what to do in Cannes and its surroundings — or extend the adventure with the canyoning near Cannes in the Gorges du Loup.

That's the whole charm of a baptism starting from Cannes: you leave the glamour of the Croisette to discover, some fifty minutes away, a wild and silent mountain. Between take-off at 1,800 m and landing in the valley, it is over 1,000 metres of elevation gain and flights lasting between 10 and 60 minutes, depending on the package — just long enough to see the Bay of Cannes and the Lérins Islands come into view in the distance, set against the Mediterranean.

Takeoffs

Where to fly from Cannes?

Two sites chosen that morning based on the day's meteorological conditions and confirmed by text. Both offer exceptional coastal panoramas.

Main site · 50 mins

Gréolières site (1,800 m)

Take-off from the ridges of Cheiron, longer flights, with views of the sea and the mountains. We’ll be landing at Gréolières village, right next to our school.

High mountain ambiance, wild nature and wide open spaces, 50 minutes from Cannes.

Alternative · 40 mins

Gourdon site (1,080 m)

Closer to Cannes, the Embarnier site above Gourdon offers an alternative, depending on the aerological conditions.

Take-off from one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, direct view of the Gorges du Loup and the coast.

  • La Mediterranean, the Bay of Cannes and the Croisette sparkling in the distance
  • The Lérins Islands (Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat) on a clear day
  • Le The Estérel Massif and its red rocks on the horizon
  • The summits of the Mercantour with a breathtaking panoramic view
  • The wild plateaux of Cheiron and the Gorges du Loup below

Why climb so high when you live by the water’s edge? Because no other coastal location offers the same wind conditions as Gréolières: a due south aspect, regular breezes and over 250 flyable days per year. This elevation difference, which is nowhere to be found near the coast, makes all the difference between a short hop lasting just a few minutes and a proper flight over the ridges — accessible to beginners as well as those who are simply curious and would like to learn to fly afterwards.

The spot brings together enthusiasts from all over the bay: one goes up there from Antibes, Grasse Mandelieu as much as Cannes. And the day is easily completed on the seaside: a crossing towards the Lérins Islands (Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat), a climb into the old quarter of Stew, or a stroll along the Croisette after the flight — the perfect way to combine the thrills of flying with the Cannes way of life. A first-time flight makes for a truly memorable gift: it’s a popular choice for a birthday or a hen party, as the experience offers such a refreshing contrast to the hustle and bustle of the seaside. About fifty minutes from the town, the change of scenery is complete — the sea and the festivals on one side, the silence of the ridges and the freedom of flight on the other.

In flight

The French Riviera from the air

From Cannes Bay to the ridges of the Cheiron: a glimpse of what awaits you on your first flight. Souvenir video option available (+€30), included in the Prestige flight.

From the moment you take off, a feeling of total freedom takes hold: the ground recedes, silence settles in, and the coastline stretches as far as the eye can see between the sea and the mountains. The on-board video, filmed by your instructor on a GoPro, captures every moment — the big jump, the turns over the ridges, and the panoramic view of the Bay of Cannes and the Lérins Islands. It’s the best way to relive the flight, share it with your loved ones and, long after you’ve returned to earth, hold on to a memento of those few timeless minutes.

D-Day

How does a paragliding flight from Cannes take place?

A straightforward and reassuring experience, supervised from start to finish by your state-qualified instructor. The location (Gréolières or Gourdon) will be confirmed by text message the day before, depending on the weather.

Confirmation the day before

SMS with the chosen site, the GPS point of the meeting and the time according to the weather.

Journey through the Gorges

40 to 50 minutes from Cannes via Grasse and the Loup Valley – the journey is part of the adventure.

Briefing & equipment

Safety instructions, harness, helmet. A few running steps into the wind and you are flying.

Take-off & landing

Contemplation, thermal flights or acrobatics of your choice, followed by a gentle landing in the valley.

Once airborne, nothing is imposed: you can take control for a few turns, ask for acrobatics if you fancy, or simply let yourself be carried along. The instructor always concludes the flight with a debrief and gives you your video if you chose it. No physical preparation is necessary – a few running steps at take-off are enough – and the flight adjusts to everyone, from the most cautious to the most daring.

We fly at Gréolières almost all year round. Spring and autumn offer the most consistent conditions; summer is best enjoyed early in the morning (when the air is cooler at altitude); and winter brings the chance to try paragliding on skis. The session is confirmed the day before by text message, depending on the weather, and rescheduling is free of charge: you only pay for your first flight once you’re back on the ground, never in advance — the weather decides the day, and all you have to do is enjoy the moment.
