Yes, and this is rare enough in France to be worth mentioning. Whilst many mountain sites close for several months, the Mediterranean climate means we can fly all year round. At Ailéments, we fly all year round, with a slight lull in January, the most unpredictable month.

Our main site benefits from an ideal orientation: the sun warms the slope for much of the year and triggers the thermals. one of the few French sites where you can fly cross-country even in the middle of winter. The sites closer to the coast take over depending on the wind regime.

Cool nights and warming days create strong temperature contrasts: ideal conditions for generating Thermal ascents. As we gain altitude, the flights get longer, and the Mercantour keeps its snow-capped peaks in the background. June, dry and stable, is perfect for long flights.
This is the busiest period: powerful thermals and spectacular soaring flights. The midday heat makes the air more turbulent, so we favour flights early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Our advice: book in advance, summer slots go quickly.
The light turns golden, the air is soft and calmer, the crowds thin out. September and October often combine the most balanced conditions, ideal for a serene baptism as well as a prestigious sunset flight. A few rainy spells punctuate the season, but the windows remain superb.

One certainty: safety always comes first. It is the instructor who decides on the day whether conditions are suitable. If they are not, we postpone the flight without hesitation – never the slightest compromise. Thanks to Gréolières’s south-facing aspect and the Mediterranean climate, winter often brings crystal-clear air and exceptional views, with the Mercantour covered in snow on one side and the sea on the other. January is the most variable month, but many days remain flyable, and winter is also the season for ski flying.
There is no bad month, but the Spring (May-June) and the'Autumn (September-October) bring together the most balanced conditions and the most beautiful light. Summer is ideal if you like sensations, provided you fly in the early morning or late in the day, when the air is milder.
If the flight conditions are not met, we report your flight at a later date. Safety comes first: it is the State-diplomaed instructor who validates the conditions on the day, and a postponed flight is always preferable to a flight in poor conditions.
During summer and on sunny weekends, slots get booked up quickly, so it's best to book in advance. In spring and autumn, booking is more flexible. In all cases, we will confirm your slot based on the predicted weather.

The morning and late afternoon offer the mildest and calmest air, perfect for a first flight, families and children. The Midday is reserved for more energetic flights, carried by thermal ascents, which allow gaining altitude and prolonging the flight.
