Draguignan, gateway to the Var backcountry, is the ideal starting point to discover the paragliding. Dracena residents have two options: the Mount Lachens, roof of the Var at 45 minutes, and Gréolières At 1 o'clock, our main site.
Why go all the way up there? Because no site in the Var region offers such a gradient: 20 to 60-minute flights, ideal atmospheric conditions, and a panoramic view stretching from Mercantour to the Côte d’Azur coastline — see our page paragliding in the Var for the full comparison.
The round trip is done in a day, and the excursion combines very well with the canyoning in the Gorges du Loup for a day’s 100 % thrills.
From Draguignan, two sites are available to you: the Mount Lachens, the highest point in the Var, 45 minutes away via the Canjuers plateau, and Gréolières, 1 hour away, our main site with over 1,000m of elevation gain. Flights lasting between 10 and 60 minutes over the Var hinterland, between the Mediterranean and Mercantour, on a lovely day.

Where to fly from Draguignan?
The great thing about Dracénois: two genuine options. The nearby Lachens for flights in the Var region, and the Gréolières for significant altitude gain and long flights.

The secret of Gréolières can be summed up in one word: elevation. Whilst coastal sites are limited to a few hundred metres, the Cheiron offers over a thousand, with a south-facing aspect and over 250 flyable days per year. Long flights and reliable conditions, as reassuring for a first baptism as they are enriching for those who wish to progress.
When it comes to exploration, the Dracénois hinterland has plenty of attractions: the Dolmen of the Fairy Stone, the Museum of Fine Arts or the old town can be visited as part of the flight. And the more adventurous are happy to add a canyoning trip in the Gorges du Loup for a day out in the great outdoors.
The view alone makes the trip worthwhile: from beneath the wing, the Gorges du Loup and their sheer cliffs, the wild plateaus of the Cheiron, the coast in the distance and the first peaks of the Mercantour. There’s a striking contrast between the hinterland and the open sea, which is particularly striking as you take off. And as the area is brimming with things to see — hilltop villages, gorges, the Canjuers plateau — it would be a shame to leave straight away: your first flight can easily be extended into a day trip.

How does a paragliding flight work?
A straightforward and reassuring course, supervised from start to finish by your state-qualified instructor. You’ll receive a confirmation text message the day before — stating the chosen location (Lachens or Gréolières) depending on the weather.

Briefing & equipment
Safety instructions, harness, helmet. A few running steps into the wind and you are flying.
Take-off & landing
20 to 60 mins depending on the formula, then gently dropped off at the school gates.
The flight belongs to you. take control, Whether you dare to perform acrobatics or prefer to be gently rocked, the choice is yours. The instructor concludes with a debrief and the handover of the video if you have opted for it. No experience is necessary – just being able to run a few metres at take-off is enough – and each introductory flight is tailored, from the most tranquil to the most sporty.
Almost all year round, there’s a window of opportunity to fly at Gréolières: steady thermals in spring and autumn, early morning slots in summer, and clear skies in winter. From Draguignan, the flight slot is confirmed the day before by text message to avoid any unnecessary travel, and rescheduling is free of charge in the event of changeable weather.
There's no need to be sporty or a daredevil: the instructor manages the entire flight, and all it takes is a few running steps to take off. Younger children (from 4 years old), cautious individuals, and thrill-seekers will all find something to enjoy. It's also a great gift idea – birthdays, hen parties, and groups are welcome, with dedicated time slots. And to go further, progression courses will lead you to a pilot's license, at your own pace.

J’ai pris attache avec Ailements car je souhaitais découvrir le site de Greolieres en tant que parapentiste et cela en toute sécurité avec un coaching « personnalisé ». Du coup Pierrot, le patron de Ailements m’a donné rendez vous sur le site afin de m’accompagner sur cette journée découverte de site. C’était purement génial. Super briefing météo, super briefing sur le spot de vol avec les coins qui permettent de monter et les pièges à éviter. Une fois décollé, j’ai eu des conseils via radio et par la suite j’ai pu suivre Pierrot en vol. Franchement c’était top, avec un super état d’esprit et à chaque fois la sécurité au centre de tout.
