Looking for an intense experience close to the Côte d'Azur? Discover how Ailéments transforms a simple weekend into a real micro-adventure in the heart of the Alpes Maritimes, from paragliding to exploring the Gorges du Loup.
The micro-adventure concept is becoming increasingly popular. The idea? Treat yourself to a short break of intense exploration, close to home, without the need for complex equipment or exceptional physical condition. In the Alpes Maritimes, the Loup valley and the village of Gréolières provide the perfect backdrop for these invigorating escapes.
Only an hour's drive from Nice or Cagnes-sur-Mer, this unspoilt region offers an exceptional playground for combining a wide range of activities. paraglidingcanyoning and hiking. Ailéments, a specialist organisation based in Gréolières, offers complete experiences to discover this natural and cultural heritage from every angle.
"Micro-adventure is the very essence of our offer," explains Pierre, an instructor at Ailéments. We allow our customers to experience in one day a total immersion in natureA change of scenery comparable to a long journey, but accessible for a weekend.
The start of this micro-adventure usually begins with a first paragliding experience from the heights of Gréolières. Access to the take-off site is by car, with a convenient car park nearby, followed by a short approach walk.
Gréolières benefits from an exceptional microclimate that allows us to fly almost 300 days a year - a considerable advantage that makes it one of the most reliable spots in the region. The south-facing Cheiron mountain captures thermals perfectly, making it an ideal launch pad for first flights.
"Our site allows you to fly in all seasons," explains Pierrot, pilot at Ailéments. "Each season offers a different experience: summer for the dynamic thermal conditions, autumn for the flamboyant colours of the Parc Naturel Régional des Préalpes d'Azur, winter for the exceptional clarity of the air, and spring for the diversity of the flower-filled landscapes."
The flight itself is a spectacular immersion in the panoramas of the Alpes Maritimes. On one side, the view stretches all the way to the Mediterranean; on the other, you can admire hilltop villages such as Gourdon or Tourrettes-sur-Loup. Flying over the Loup valley allows you to appreciate the full extent of the Gorges du Loup, which are inaccessible by traditional hikers.
For this first paragliding experienceThe price is €130 for an adult and €90 for a child, including full equipment and supervision by a qualified instructor.
After this aerial discovery, there's nothing like immersing yourself in the bowels of the Gorges du Loup to complete the experience. Canyoning offers a totally different perspective on this natural gem in the Alpes Maritimes.
The activity consists of descending the river, alternating walking, swimming, jumps and natural slides. Wearing a neoprene wetsuit, helmet and harness, you progress along a course sculpted by erosion over thousands of years.
The Gorges du Loup are exceptional for canyoning," explains Tom, guide at Ailéments. "We offer several routes, depending on the season and the level of participants. The start is usually in the village of Bar-sur-Loup or Tourrettes-sur-Loup, with easy access by car and secure parking.
The canyoning trip lasts half a day (around 3h30) and costs €55 per person. This activity is accessible from the age of 7 and does not require any particular swimming skills - knowing how to swim is enough.
Through this exploration, you will discover not only the sporting aspects of canyoning, but also the geological and ecological wealth of the Gorges du Loup. The guides share their knowledge of the formation of this canyon, its fauna and flora, and the legends that surround it - a cultural dimension that enriches the experience.
For a safe and successful canyoning trip, the right equipment is essential. Start with a swimming costume to wear under your neoprene wetsuit (provided by the organiser). Trainers with grippy soles are essential to avoid slipping on wet rocks - prefer old shoes that don't fear water.
Helmets and harnesses are provided for abseiling during supervised introductory sessions. Don't forget a towel and dry clothes for afterwards. Your instructor will take care of the technical equipment (ropes, karabiners) to ensure your safety throughout the course.
For those who want the most complete experience, Ailéments offers a formula combo that combines paragliding in the morning and canyoning in the afternoon. This intensive day allows you to discover the region from every angle.
Between the two activities, take a break in one of the villages in the Vallée du Loup to sample some of the local specialities. Bar-sur-Loup, famous for its orangette confectionery, or Tourrettes-sur-Loup, the village of violets, offer an immersion in Provençal culture.
"What makes our packages so successful is that they alternate between sport, nature and culture," says Pierre. "Our customers come away with a global understanding of the area, far beyond the simple sporting activity.
For those who prefer a more contemplative approach, hiking offers an excellent way to explore the Gorges du Loup. There are a number of signposted paths leading through different sections of this spectacular canyon.
The most accessible route starts from the Bar-sur-Loup car park and follows a path that runs along the river for several kilometres. This path allows you to observe the rock formations, the emerald pools and the flora specific to this environment.
"Hiking is the perfect complement to our more sporting activities," says Pierrot. "We often recommend that our customers set aside an extra day to explore on foot certain sections of the Gorges du Loup that we fly over in a paraglider or that we don't cross when canyoning."
There is a choice of levels, from family outings to more challenging hikes. The Ailéments team can provide practical information on the best routes, depending on the season and your level.
